Krag JRS sporter stock type
Has anyone fit an action into a Boyd's JRS classic "sporter type" Krag stock that has the left hand side of the magazine cut-out filled solid (actually about 1/8" thickness of the stock wood)?

Boyd's stated that most sporterized Krags have the left side plate removed, and this looks much more attractive. The stock is illustrated at http://www.boydboys.com/BrowseEbus/JRSkrag.asp

Thanks for all of your comments.

Hotshot, I have been collecting Krag sporters for years now and I have never, make that NEVER, seen one with the sideplate removed unless it was a single shot conversion. Nearly always the sideplate is completely exposed. I do have a couple where the wood comes up halfway. I think I have seen one where the wood came up all the way, but the sideplate was there underneath - and since the sideplate curves back towards the receiver on top, this left an ugly gap in the inletting. I would agree that arguably running the wood up all the way would make for a more rigid stock, but I can't see removing the sideplate and relying on 1/8" wood as the magazine wall.

Thanks Vigillinus,
There were fully hidden & partially hidden Krag sideplate styles in some past closed auctions (GunBroker Auction # 27078265) for example, and the fully hidden looked much better.

I agree that if the gap was left, (from the removed sideplate) it would look hideous.

the gap is not left from the removed sideplate but shows up with the sideplate in place if the wood comes all the way up to the top of the sideplate. The wood can't curve back towards the receiver to match the curve in the sideplate. What Boyds told you is absolute nonsense - Krag sporters do not have the sideplate removed. Period.
