hookerwhich bases
I am going to mount a scope to my 700 bdl 300 mag. My question is should i use a one piece base or a two piece base. I would prefer two piece but the one piece looks sturdier, however i don't know if that really translates into the best base.
thanks

hunter_fishI believe either would work, I have used the leupold one piece on my 700. I would assume the 2 piece would be just as sturdy, cause it is mounted on the reciever and I would hope that would be as sturdy as a one piece base.

boltmanAs a general rule two piece bases are stronger because they have an extra screw holding them down. The screws are the weak link in the system. That extra steel in a one piece base isn't going to do anything to stiffen an action.

MarkThe two piece base will work just fine. The only reason I can see for a 1 piece base is possibly better alignment for the rings, but for best accuracy they should be lapped anyway regardless of the base style.
