Ruger No 3 Action
Ruger No 3 Action
I want to buld a single shot rifle. What can I do with a Ruger No 3 action?
What cartridge sizes will fit in this action?

Thanks, I learn something new every day.
If I go wth a custom stock can I get rid of the barrel band? Will it take a forearm hanger like a No 1?

RockdocFrank. It has the same forend hanger as the No. 1.
The actions are the same except for the lever setup. The No.1 lever locks on the trigger guard.
The No3 the lever is the trigger guard and it locks using a ball - detent at the rear of the lever base.

Purchased No.3 on this site in 22Hornet and very nearly completed conversion to 45/70. Have a No.1, but personally I like the No.3 w/ the simple, streamlined, lever set up. No. 1's are common, but a No.3 is becoming scarce.

Many years ago I had a .38 special 16" bull barrel put on a # 3 for my wifes bench rifle ( non competition ). She could hit a 1/4" dot 9 out of 10 times at 50 yds.

Thanks for the info guys. I occasionally stumble upon deals for No. 3s a lot cheaper than No. 1s but I haven't bought any because I knew nothing about them.

If those for sale #3s are close to you, reasonably priced and in good shape let me know should you not want them. Would make a nice morning drive.
