A story of stupidity and a question...
First the story.

A friend of mine loaned his gun to someone he shouldn't have. The end result was the guy dropping the gun out of the tree, landing barrel first in the mud.

What better way to clean out a barrel full of mud than to fire a round through it, right?

Luckily nobody was hurt.

So, he has a Savage 116FXP3 that needs a new barrel.

It started life as a 7 Rem Mag. Now he wants to make it into something different.

He has a 300 Mag, so he is looking for something bigger. Will this action be suitable for a 375 H&H or a .338 Win Mag?

Wendell: Your buddy's rifle could be a 338 win mag, or even a 375 Ruger.. just a barrel change away.. 375 H&H is too long for that action.. Les

Close, he is making the old barrel into a table. It has three perfect legs split evenly.

I would have the action checked by someone prior to spending any money on a new barrel. I don't know how strong that action is or to what extent it may have been damaged by the over pressure.
I know I have seen them stretched when fired with a bore obstruction.
