Pre 64 win
Not sure this is the right place to post but, I recently purchased a pre 64 Win supergrade and not sure what the original butt pad looked like. This rifle has a very thin black pad with double white spacers. No wording on the pad either. Does anyone know what an original supergrade butt pad should look like?
Thanks

Go to Cabelas Fine Gun Room and you should fine examples there with perhaps a good picture.

If it has white spacers it ain't original!

The super grades came with a steel buttplate or a Winchester pad for the 375's, maybe others on special order.

Correct me if I am wrong on this.

I was almost sure the buttpad wasn't original. Any suggestions on what to use to take off 70 years of grime off the stock and the baked on oil on the action???

Assuming you are not wanting to refinish the stock, you will want to remove the barreled action and hardware. Uses soft brushes and Murphy's oil soap on small areas. Clean an area and wipe dry. Try to use as little water as possible. Avoid abrasives. There are a number of gun cleaning solvents that should remove the grime and gunk. Some of the spray ons are good since they will get into the crevices.
