7.62x39 Mauser
I wish to make a 7.62x39 bolt action using an omark target barrel (.308 diameter) & perhaps a M98 or a carcano action.
What are your thoughts on this project.
Can I use ex military ammo through the .308 barrel without any problems ?
Cheers Morton

Look closely at the mini mauser from remington as it's available in that chambering now.

Please believe me....you don't want thoughts on converting a '98 mauser to this round!

308Sako
Morton3, I shoot 2 different 7.62 x 39's, one a Sako vixen barreled by Bill Wiseman is .308, and the other a Colt AR-Sporter unknown to me the bore diameter. I have shot all types of 7.62 in the Colt, but only Remington and Norma factory or .308 bulleted reloads in the Sako. The key for you would be in the throating of the reamer to taper the leade from say .310 to.308 before the actual beginnings of the rifleing. That area between the case mouth and the rifling as it were. That is if you must do the work to the Mauser, I would find a CZ or suitable smaller action myself. Ruger madea run of 7.62's and I believe from what I have read that they utilized a tapered leade as well. I must add that this cartridge is a very accurate and enjoyable round to play with.
