A question for the metalsmiths....
I have a pre-64 Model 70 Chambered in 458 Mag. I am considering rechambering to 458 Lott. It has been restocked with Blackburn drop box bottom metal. Can I have the action opened up to hold the longer box and be able to retain the bottom metal I already have on the rifle?

Roger, damned if I know.

But on another front. Do you have a picture of Ray's .505 Gibbs you can post? Or email it to me so I can, always loved that rifle.

I will post a few pics of the 505 soon.

I need to send the barrel dimensions to Wisner. I will have Jim build a front sight and barrel swivel for it. Jim told me it will be a couple of months before he can get at it. He did all of the rail and magazine work on the rifle and fitted one of his 3 position safeties and his magnum extractor.

I will, of course scroll-erize it. I guess I won't be able to get at it until I finish the engraving on yours though. Lol

Chic,

As an aside, Ray built the pattern for the drop- box 458. It is every bit as impressive a job as the 505. If not imposing!

Roger, You will have to change the existing guard with another. Not enough metal to open up and then you would lose the floorplate hinge pin. Blackburn moved his front screw forward 3/8" to have a large hinge, on the long magnums. So you have the new guard to reinlet into the stock, as well as the rail work. It would be better to leave it as a 458 Win Mag.

Thanks Jim

I tend to agree with you. Too much work, too late in the game. I will drop down to 450 gr. X bullets.
