I have brought many 98 "sporters" the sellers never seemed to get the labor cost out of them.

I am mortified at this overlook, and will be suitably chastised for the blunder. I am writing my official letter of reprimand now and a copy will be placed in my personnel file.
I do know what a 33-40 is; I have 4 of them.
Happens to even the best of know it alls.
Merry Christmas.

dpcdI hope that made you feel better.

rcraigAnd I hope you feel better, too. Happy Holidays !
What was I supposed to feel better about ?

customboltThanks for setting me straight Bobster. Big brain fart - that one. The bevel shown has no contact with the Left lug which travels from 9 o'clock to 12 o'clock (in battery). Sorry for my goof. CB

At battery, the right lug should be at six and the left at 12. The bevel seen in the cutaway may be the one that cams the right lug into its seat (not visible in the photo).

Samberman,
I see the bevel you are looking at. There is no right lug contact at 6 o'clock. The right lug is at the 3 o'clock position when bolt is in the closed position. Does that answer your question?

Metal, is that lower lug abutment the way the usually look at 6 o'clock? It doesn't look as though it would contact the lug, even at the bottom.

sambarman338Thanks guys, I realise now that the receiver must have been sliced somewhat to the right of centre.

Kolo-PanIt seems to me that if a G/33/40 can have its receiver sliced in half and rewelded and its bolt cut in half and soldered, then it should be able to withstand having a tiny hole filed with weld and done up into a fine custom sporter.

kda55Bolts are not soldered, they are welded.
25 December 2023, 23:59
dpcdYou can solder shortened bolts with a pin.
I said your action was fine as long as the hole does not cut the locking surface, and even then, it will be ok for non magnums.
Plug it and use it. Re drill if necessary.

WE are not talking about putting a new handle on now,
Rather about cutting the bolt in half and putting it back together again,

none of what Duane did in that shortening affected the pressure bearing surfaces, it was all a long way behind the lockup area. Unlike the hole drilled right through the middle of a locking lug.

Makes sense to me.
