BobsterLooks like he may be polishing a muzzle brake joint.

Macs BHow much you want to bet that its a pinned and tacked suppressor that would make the rifle a SBR if it is removed.

WoodHunterNope, fitting a NECG front barrel band ramp prior to silver soldering.
M70, 416 Rem Mag, cut rifled barrel.

BitterrootYou size the band not the barrel

You might but I do not. My method ensures the barrel band is concentric to the barrel bore centerline, as I dial in to the bore.
I have sized the bands before, what a PITA.
458 Lott, full house 500 grains, 3 shot group, 100 yards. Would have been a one holer but I was starting to flinch.
Note the dial indicator in the first photo. The steady is roller bearing and operates like a 4-jaw chuck.

Jim KobeSo, l;how did you align the bore with the OD? Is the bore concentric to the OD? The barrel is probably tapered, are Your grinding the taper off and what does it do to align the bore of the sight, which is straight bored, to the match the rifle's bore????

That's what I was wondering. What about the the area where the ramp is? Is that part of the barrel still tapered?
It takes me 5 minutes, 10 max to fit a band to the tapered barrel. And silver solder???? Soft solder is more than adequate.

Duane Wiebe (CG&R)My thoughts about using silver solder are like Bitteroots...Which brings up a point that may be a little off the subnject matter.
I seldom use silver solder on a barrel (mostly like never) That's some outrageous heat..any wisdom on that?

jplWhen I do muzzle work, I stick the barrel through the head. A 4-jaw on one end and a spider at the back lets me center things up.

For something simple like crowning? Piloted crowning tools make all that obsolete

jplMost of my muzzles are threaded.
I wonder how WoodHunter's setup would work for cutting threads. It seems like there might be enough torsional spring to cause problems.
