NorHunterWinchester P17-Modding or keeping
Hi !
Is a P17 in 30-06 anything to build a custom rifle on ?
Does it handle a magnum calibre ?

Tex21Hi!
Lots of big boomers have been built on these actions.
Then again, if you've got a complete unaltered rifle, you might leave it as is and hunt with it in its present caliber. There is nothing wrong with a 30-06 at all.
If however you want to use it as an action to build upon, you're only limited by your wallet!
Good Luck!

45nutWell,somebody has to say it.
If it's a 30-06 it's not a "P" anything,it MIGHT/Should be a Model 1917. Only Enfield rifle with a "P" designation is the P-14 in .303 british.
Regarding the original query whether they are suitable for a custom the answer is yes, very.
I have Enfields in 500A-Square,458 Lott,458x2,416 Rem Mag,375-338,35 Whelen as well as 303 and 30-06. I have five more actions ready for a new life but am running out of calibers I feel I need/want. One that DOES intrigue me is the .470Mbogo. I do have a void in the .475 area.
I am also a Mauser fan and SMLE fan, levergun and Contender nut. I am a full=fledged powder burner,no reason not to be.
