Globe front sight on a 480 Ruger Super Redhawk?
I have been handgun hunting for a couple of decades. I've been looking at an Aimpoint but would prefer to keep iron sights. I have always used iron sights and would like to have installed an accurate iron sight system like a globe front sight and a peep/ghost ring rear. Can it be done ? Has it been done? What are the conponents? I'm fine with the stock irons to 50 yards but can't get a good sight picture to keep it tight at longer distances...

I have yet to try a ghost ring on a revolver, but I've heard that they aren't as accurate as the traditional patridge sight. From what I've found with my 480, the biggest problem is the orange insert in the front blade. It simply makes the sight picture blurry. I think the best solution is simply replacing the front blade with a solid patridge blade.

That said, if you really want good long range accuracy, I'd highly recomend a varialbe 2-7X scope on your 480. With irons I can hold about 2" at 50 yds, put a scope on it, and I can hold 2" at 100 yds, and sometimes better.
