Free-floating a .22 rimfire

Is it worth the trouble? Does a rimfire really vibrate that much when fired?

Never having done it before, if I do decide to try, what's the best way to remove the wood from the stock?

I free-floated and bedded my Marlin 880SQ with Acraglas, the gun is now very accurate, with Remington Thunderbolt ammunition that I seperated by weight, the rifle can shoot 1/4" group at 25 meters, sometimes putting 3 shots thru the same bullethole.

The Marlin I have is with a synthetic stock. To remove wood efficiently, consider a rotary tool and a rotary chisel.

I have had overall good luck free floating along with later glass bedding several 22rf rifles.....and as the other post states the BEST way is with a barrel router tool but for just a gun or two they get expensive..I have had good luck with coarse grit sandpaper wrapped around round objects that are slightly larger than the barrel diameter at the point you are opening.....and switch to lighter grit as the size gets to near desired depth/width....tape the stock edges and retest the fit of barrel often and switch round backers as the barrel gets smaller and match the taper and make sure you wet/raise the burrs in the channel and later if you leave it floated to SEAL the channel with a stock finnish.....good luck and good shooting!!!
