Benchrest.com classifieds has a pre64 22Hornet SuperGrade. It is claimed to be unfired and has the original box. He is asking $7500. Sounds like a lot of money to me.

It is a lot of money. However, I've not seen a Super Grade Hornet so, it's a bit of a rarity already. If it is truly unfired it's quite likely to be one-of-a-kind. This is where collector value is quite a bit different than real world value. Face it, as a rifle, it's worth around 1200 of today's dollars. As a pristine example of a classic American rifle, it's worth a lot more to someone who values that sort of thing highly. Regards, Bill.

It may be too high. I think it would be a hard thing to put a real value on. It seems to me like it would be one of those things that is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

But let's face it how many unfired with box and papers pre 64 Winchester 70 supergrades in 22 hornet do you see for sale?

unless i had the winning lottery ticket in my pocket i don't believe i'd go over about 60% of that

Our local high end dealer had a nice 98-99% Super Grade Hornet for $4500 hand his prices are always HIGH. I would suspect not much more than that for NIB. I suspect this pre 64 M70 price craze will die in a few years and fall back to a bit more reasonable. I just repaired a Pre 64 458 Mag last week for him and he had $5999.00 on it, nuts!

SWD, so long as we have more and more guys with big money coming out of the woodwork - and it looks like that will - there is no chance that collector gun prices will stop climbing.

They are only going to go up...they have been doing so since 1964.

Remember you have guys out there that drive $80,000 cars to work.

I have no clue what that thing was worth. I am sure he could afford a pickup load of Super Grade Hornets. When the stock ticks up $.02 and they gain $10,000 it is no big deal.

I agree. Pre64 M70 prices were much lower before production of the M70 stopped a few months ago. As soon as M70 production starts up again at a new plant, prices will become more reasonable again. Maybe not as low as they were before but lower than they are now. JMHO.

there's a supergrade hornet thats been around the saxet gun shows in south texas now for about a year....last time i saw it, it was in robstown, just west of corpus christi... seller was asking $1200/offer for it...nice, but a little out of my league.....
