ClarkDouble recoil pads?
I saw a nice shotgun that had this.
Is there a good way to attach the second one, and have them both compress without a screw poking me?

What you might have seen was a spacer used to lengthen the
stock. If not I'm not sure what it could have been. If you
are looking for a pad to really reduce recoil try a Limb
Saver, it gives the most cusion of any pad on the market.
I have installed KICK EEZ for several years, but recently
started installing the Limb Saver pad. They have a built in
air chamber and are made of very soft material. The Limb
Saver pad is available in some prefit models and also grind
able in Brownells Catalog. Roy

KoryI use a SIMS slip-on recoil pad on my Tikka T3 which already had some sort of pad. I works very well, and I can use the slip on pad on a couple of different rifles too.

wsjHow'd you get a look at my shotgun??!!
Oh, nevermind, re-reading I see you said "nice" shotgun, which eliminates my camo plastic stocked 870 Express Super mag from consideration. But it does sport a double recoil pad: a slip on pad over the original factory pad, artfully attached with camo duct tape, as is the sorbothane cheek pad.
I love 870's but the length of pull is a bit short. So I've always simply added a slip-on pad and never worried about the aesthetics on a duck and turkey gun. And when I got the 3 1/2" model, the reduction in felt recoil was worthwhile. It's just got a rubber Pachmayer pad on it but I plan to go to a Sims/R3 before spring turkey, maybe an R3 replacement screw-on pad with the slip on over it.
Pretty? Nope. Functional? Yep. The answer to your question? Probably not!

Clarkwsj,
calculating recoil runs in my viens, and like a true nerd getting exited over numbers, in 1999 I posted on rec.guns:
Quote:
A 458 Win Magnum 400 gr bullet at 2429 fps will have 5,240 foot pounds of energy. A Winchester 70 458 mag weighs 8.5 lb. it its kick is 35.2 foot pounds of recoil energy.
.
If we compare this to a 7 1/2 pound Remington 870 shooting 2 3/4" trap loads of 1 oz at 1185 fps recoil is 11.3 foot pound recoil energy.
.
The same shotgun shooting 3 1/2" magnums 2 1/4 oz at 1150 fps produces 57 foot pounds of recoil energy.
Of course recoil has more dimensions; gun velocity and mass, time interval and shoulder area stopping the gun, and noise. But....
That shotgun load scares me!
