as close as I can get.....this is on a medium length Mauser barreled action i have. There is no date that I can see. If anyone could tell me what this creature is I would appreciate it thanks.

As I was born in Yugoslavia I can give you answer. Your rifle was made in Kragujevac, Yugoslavia between two world wars and was service rifle for Royal Yugoslav Army. After WW II factory in Kragujevac was named Crvena Zastava (means Red Flag in English)and produced only slightly different model M48. Now, Crvena Zastava produces sporting rifles based on longer action named Mark X here, that is same as Mauser FN.
