firing pin protrusion
working on a savage-stevens 340 chambered in 30-30. cocking piece key came out allowing firing pin to turn out, decreasing firing spring compression and leading to misfiring. hope to get key from numrich or a piece of scrap via a file. need to know proper range of protrusion to put back up. any help out there? thanks--cb

All center-fire rifles are set to .055 to .065".

You can make a key from a common washer. Make sure it's a "machine" washer. It'll be black oxide finished instead of the more common plated ones. The difference is in the steel and heat-treating.

thanks very much. kinda feel like a fool. after posting, checked out a couple in my box and arrived at .060 as avg. actual setting came out 0.058 when i put it back up. checked out numrich, and they apparently do have the key. again, thanks--cb
