BrettDoes a P'64 M70 375HH Need 2nd Recoil Lug?
Mr. Belk, Robgunbuilder, Bareclaw, otheres??? I will cross bolt per Jack Lott's suggestions, bed action icluding recoil lug and float barrel. Is a second lug on the barrel necessary?

It depends entirely on how good the wood is.
I've never seen a pre-war M-70 stock cracked that wasn't first either oil soaked or screwed with by somebody that didn't know what he was doing.

BrettMr. Belk, thanks for the reply! How right you are... This one has had a very thick shim between the barrel and stock just forward of the forend screw. This cracked the stock on the top right side next to the barrel. Looks like it happened due to the downward bending force made possible by the shim "lever". I intend to pin and arca-glass the crack. The stock is sound otherwise.
I have removed the varnish and inspected the inleting. Does not look as if the wood is really oil-soaked or pulpy but it is dark in some areas.

<G.Malmborg>I agree... No 375 H&H or it's improved versions require a second recoil lug. 1 lug is more than enough.
