<.280 Sweden>How good is Win. m/70 XTR?
Hi,
How good is Winchesters m/70 XTR action compared to Pre64?
There are some used XTR for good price in stores.

<jagtip>It's a push feed and some shooters don't like push feeds but other than that, they're fine when you consider price and all.I once had a win 70 XTR that would consistently print cloverleaf groups. As I recall,I traded it off because I didn't like the stock.

<Fish Springs>The XTR Winchester (US Repeating Arms)rifles are accurate, or can be bedded to shoot accurately. They seem to suffer from a lack of consistant barrel channel space and need a some support built up at the back of the action. If the bedding is done correctly, several that I have shot will shoot with any M700 Rem or Pre-64 M70 that I have shot. I have a 300 H&H that I'll not trade until the current barrel is shot out--and may just rebarrel it.
Controlled feed is simply not needed in most hunting situations. I have rolled around the firing line working the bolt in every position I could get the rifle into--no misfeeds or failures.
