Kimber 84M.............Scout?
Through a somewhat complicated trade, I find myself the owner of a Kimber 84M in .243 and a Leupold Scout scope. Would it be possible to mount a scout scope base on this and use the scout scope? Is the barrel thick enough to drill and tap? Any problems I should be aware of in doing this? What base should I use?

Thanks!

Forget it. We move scopes on our rifles all of the time and there is no reason to mess up a nice rifle with the dumb Scout scope.

Just sell or trade that scope and get the right one.

Putting a scout scope on a 243 is like putting an afterburner on a turtle. You can do it, but why bother.

Thanks for the opinions. Now, back to the question...is it possible?

Thanks

Your best bet is probably the Ashley/Clifton or Ching Ring scout scope mount.

I am going to agree with Eric (Slingster) here, I would go with the Ching Ring.

I have also used the sight base from a Ruger No. 1 in the past, but you need a friendly barrel contour or machine work.

There can be a lot of drama involved in mounting a scout scope in forward position, and these mounts avoid drilling into the barrel.

Have you thought about trading the Kimber for a scout-configured rifle? Less drama involved in this path (been there, done that).

hoss, to answer your question, yes. Brockmans in Idaho did mine on a mod 70 winnie. No drilling, they used modified talley bases. I love the gun for hunting in the heavy brush and timber. If you want to see a picture, send me a PM
