Supposedly, new regulations transferring firearms regulation from ITAR to Commerce are to be published this week and be effective 45 days from publishing.
The primary benefit for sporting firearms is that FFL manufacturers previously required to have a $2,500 license will no longer be required to do so.

Should this come to be, it constitutes a major step in the right direction, IMO.
