WoodHunterDouglas Barrel
Found this one in the classifieds.
30 inches long, 1.250" diameter full length. .404 of all things.
Seems it was in the Wells Shop for some time, then migrated to Texas for some seasoning for 20 years.
I will stash in the dark vault for more aging time, then decide what to do with it. Likely some milling machine time is in store.
You never know just what will show up on the forums!
Yes, Douglas does make .404 barrels; .423 groove. Excellent ones.

disassemblyIf you peel off the shipping label on the tube you will find the Brownells shipping label to Mr. Wells.

Started to but was afraid of tearing it. I will use the heat gun to ease the glue bond.
Many thanks for selling this one to me. Thinking about a long octagon barrel on a Pre 64 or maybe I will become ambitious and do a full custom job on one of my stashed Enfield actions.
Nice to find a blank with this much history!

As much as you like Douglas barrels I knew you would chime in.
My first rifle build was a 257 Ackley using a No. 4 Douglas XX. This was in 1964.
I've talked to guys who didn't know that Douglas made .404 barrels; some forget about the US's oldest, and best, custom barrel maker.

Back in the primitive world where I grew up, early 1960's when I started noticing guns, the local guys worshipped Douglas Barrels. So yea, Douglas has a long history.
