WyoJoe8mm/338 Mag
Does anyone have experience with this round? Does it use the same headspace gauge as the .338? I have loading data for it & it seems promising.

D HumbargerIt's a very fine round. The "belted" magnums
headspace off the belt. When you reload that once fired case FORGET that damn belt. Headspace off the shoulder with a necksizing die. Adjust the necksizing die so that it does NOT touch the shoulder. Earlier 8mm bullets were intended for somewhat low to moderate velocity & tend to come apart at high velocity. Barnes or Nosler are the ticket with the 8mm/338.

Ray, AlaskaIs this cartridge a 8mm case topped with a .338 bullet, or the other way around?

WyoJoeRay,
It is a .338 necked down to take 8mm bullets.
I see you are from North Pole. Do you know a Bill Aldridge that lived there until about a year & a half ago?

<JK>There's also a 200 grain Swift A-frame in 8mm. I believe the 200 grain bullet is to the 8mm bore as the 180 grain is to the 30 caliber bore, same basic sectional density.

Ray, AlaskaWyoJoe: I have heard the name Bill Aldridge mentioned before, but I have never met him.

WyoJoeRay,
Bill Aldridge is my uncle. I called him one spring when I lived in Dutch Harbor and asked him how the weather was in North Pole, He said "It was kind of cold but then it warmed up to 20 below. Only in North Pole could they call 20 below warming up.
Terry,
There is an e-mail coming your way about the 8mm/338 data.
