kTroutbarrel/action compatability
Will a take off barrel from a short action remington 700 work with a remington model 7 action, or will modifications have to be made?

Yes and no. The threads are the same. Whether or not it will head space properly is another question. If it does your good to go, if it doesn’t, "modifications" will have to be made.
If all you are worried about is getting the old barrel taken off and the new barrel put on then ask what this alone will cost. Also ask if it does not head space, what additional cost there will be to head space it properly.

One can't even remove a barrel from a Rem 700 and install that barrel on another Rem 700 and not do some modifications to at least rotation.

kTroutperhaps I should have been more definative in my query. I understand that it will be more likely than not that the headspace will need to be corrected. My main concern was whether the thread pitch and diameter were the same and whether the barrell from a 700 action was compatable with a model 7 action . Thanks for the replies
