Any advice on initial installation? I've just ordered my first set and don't want to bungle the installation. The on line instructions for install and adjust are a bit confusing.

It's really not as hard as they make it sound. As for tips, they are correct in that you want to work with one ring at a time, since they are matched. What I do is put 1/2 of the ring on, then the other half. Push the tops together enough to snap the top on. Do the other ring the same way and put them in the bases. Yes, you need to make sure you have the proper distance between rings, just like all of them.

What I do to check scope cant is simply set the scope on a flat surface on the bottom of the rings, since the bottom of the rings are also flat. You can check it from there before you actually get them on the gun.

Just make sure the notches on the cap and rings match and you should be good to go. The only issue I ever have is making sure the cap is on right, but if you just snap it on and it looks seamless, you did it right. I sometimes have to "play" with the cap a little to get it to snap on. Bifocals are hell.

You'll get two fistfulls of paperwork along with your Conetrol stuff. Just follow instructions...it's not rocket science. If you still have trouble give them a call. Those folks know their business. Even the ones that answer the phone!

1. Get half drunk.
2. If you have friend have him over.
3.Assemble the rings & top without the scope.
4. Tape the top to the ring halfs.
5. Put the rings over the scope.
6. Do the same with the other set of rings.
7. put the rings in the base & very lightly tighten the screws.
8. Hold the scope at the middle, have your friend hit the side of the rifle with his palm of his hand until the scope is perpendicular to the rifle.
9.tighten the base screws.
10. get really drunk.
I have Conetrols on all my using rifles they are the best.

Well, I got them installed and they look great. Some problem getting the crosshairs right and an aproximate eye relief though. Now I have absolutely no clue how to refine eye relief. Lots of money for something so difficult to work with.

You need the 2nd person at this point, You need to loosen up the rings, Hold the scope between the rings while the other person lightly holds the rifle at the floor plate then hit the butt plate or forend with your palm until the eye refief is ok.. Have you restarted to drink again?

Still not drinking but this has me thinking about it. So, loosen the rings, hold scope between rings and beat on floor (assume beat muzzle to go other way, right?). This will not scratch the scope?

Only if you get so drunk you forget which part to beat on the floor. Or if you assembled it the first time with dirt under the rings. Just make sure the set screws are backed off enough but not so the scope is loose.

I have not tried it that way, I always use a 2nd person so both the scope & Rifle can be held, You might want to take a small screw driver & be sure the rings are seperated at the bottom. Good luck. Several of my Rifles have the stickey German Zeiss scopes on them, that will surely drive 1 to drink.

I have used these rings without too much of a problem. The custom rings had small screws to hold the ring together. After a few drinks and a few cuss words you can mount these as I show in my picture. I make the base for single shots and prefer conetrol rings.

I couldn't even get an order placed with them! Only trying to order 15 sets! NAH, wouldn't want that order....complete lunacy, nice looking rings which is why I was after em, but not worth the headache in any way IMO. Have had several gunsmiths tell me this would be the case, learned the hard way.....What you said Mike, a PITA for an expensive product.
