TMGBrownells Acracoat Wood Spray on stock finish
http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.as...title=ACRA-COAT-WOODJust noticed this product - sounds interesting. A spray on catalyzed / epoxy finish should be pretty durable. Also available in matte.
Any experience or thoughts? I have started considering spray on finishes since I saw TC1's post on his guild rifle, with the Pilkington stain and Gun Sav-R finish. I want to try Pilkingtons stain, which means avoiding too much sanding afterward.
Thanks,
TG

RhysI use the accra coat as a clear coat over painted synthetic stocks.

TMGHad any problems with it, i.e. fogging, dissolving easily? Does it look like a plastic dip, or is it passable as a finish for a nice rifle?
They state it resists 'even the most aggressive' bore cleaners; really aggressive cleaners would probably harm almost any gun finish out there, so I guess it really isn't cause for alarm.
Thanks,

One more try for comments - maybe broaden it to ANY epoxy clear coat finish, re: durability / peeling and overall looks as a finish for walnut stock?

RhysIt would work in a pinch, but as far as a spray on finish the only one I have seen give acceptable results is Chem Pak Pro Custom Oil. Spray a couple coats to fill pores, sand back to level finish, and finish with another coat. done in about 4 days. However it still wont compare with a properly done hand applied oil finish.
As far as the way I have used the accra coat to protect over the top of painted stocks, So far it has shown to do as good or better of a job than most anything else. I just with the matte was flater. I't easy to have the matte finish still come out gloss.
