Remington 798 & 799 Rifles
Gentlemen,

Does any of you have experience with the new Remington 798 & 799 model rifles?How do you rate the Mauser action on them and what are your opinions of the rifles in general?Appreciate your inputs.Thank you in advance.

The barrel and action are basically a Daly. The inletting looks like it was done with a 1/4" router bit even in the corners.

The action will need some work to smooth it up. I have no first hand experience with the 798 barrels. My wife's Daly 7x57 shoots sub MOA all day long.

For less money I would buy a used Early Model Mark X (with the release in the bow). For the same $$ an FN. Have a smoother action nicer stock and it doesn't say Remington on the side.

I re-barreled one last year. The action is OK for the money but I was a little surprised to find high temperature RTV on the barrel threads when I unscrewed the original barrel. Apparently an effort to make up for poorly fitting threads. Most people don't care for the push button floorplate release.

I mostly agree but Remington has improved them a bit.....the inletting is now done with a little better router bit.... Wink

some of the earier ones from Remington were so bad I could not believe it.....



as to finding a used Mark X.....I just bought one with the floorplate release in the trigger guard for $275 plus shipping.....right here on the AR classifieds.....

IMO this is a far better deal than reworking a Remington model!

When it comes to the mini mauser they are so hard to find that one almost has to bite the bullet and get one from Remington.....

sure wish some sold that action separately!
