James_BPac-Nor Barrels
I recently received a barrel from Pac-Nor and found the bore finish to have a matte appearance. This barrel is a Super-Match Stainless. The barrels I usually use are Harts and Kriegers, and these barrels have mirror like finishes on the bore. I have used a Pac-Nor barrel one other time and it seemed to have shot well, but I don't remember what the bore finish was like.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is this normal for Pac-Nor barrels? What has been your experience with Pac-Nor barrels?

ClarkDid you clean the bore?
There may be motor oil in there for shipping.
I can see the surface of a bore best with a thin film of Kroil in there.

<9.3x62>I've had nothing but good luck with pac-nor barrels, though I have had some issues with their smith that does the chambering.

James_BClark,
Yes, the bore was cleaned thoroughly with solvent and lightly oiled.
9.3x62,
Thats why I chamber all of my rifles myself that way I know what I got. I have been down that road.
Upon closer inspection, it's almost like they finished lapping the bore with a coarser grit then Hart or Krieger does. I guess I will find out if this barrel fouls any faster or slower than any of my other barrels.
thanks for the replies
The only thing I can think of is you'll have to finish lapping it. I would think it's probably very uniform, and that just using some finer paste on a tight fitting patch will do the trick; about 100 passes.

b beyerLapping a barrel is an art that takes years to be able to do right, if nothing else you will void the warentee by trying any kind of polishing yourself. Call them and ask them what they think you should do. Bob

<9.3x62>Some pac-nor barrels (at least standard match grade) have not impressed me too much is the fouling department. Ironically, the Shaws I've used recently actually foul less than some of the pac-nors I have. Depsite this, the pac-nors still shoot very well.
Liljas, Kriegers, Harts, and slect match Shilens are smoother for sure, in my experience.

luvrecolettaThe fellows at Pac-Nor have supplied me with superb barrels. The latest is for a 375 Dakota I had built on a Remington 30 S action. The rifle is so accurate it is scary. Call them and advise them of the problem and they will take care of you.

easyupJames,
You got me to looking and I think my pac-nor is more of a matte finish. However, it is one of, if not the least fouler I have and shoots very well.
