swmpre 64 ejection issue
1955 Model 70 in 270. had a difficult ejection with factory ammo. Only happened once since I've owned it and have fired 60 rounds.
The bolt opened normally and would only move rearward about half an inch. After fiddling with it, the bolt broke free and the shell ejected normally but the case mouth was dented. The case mouth was dented inward about 20% of its circumference. No problem with operation of the rifle after the one occurrence. After consideration, I suppose the mouth was dented by my aggressive pull on the bolt as the case flew at least eight feet. Likely bent the case mouth on the ejection port. still no idea why the stuck bolt.
Any ideas?

larry millerDid it only do it one time or does it not want to eject every time?

BobsterCheck the extractor collar and make sure it does not have an edge sticking proud of the bolt body.

customboltAlso check the outside surface of the extractor for wear in case it was replaced and not quite tweaked to perfection.

Duane Wiebe (CG&R)On robust ejection, the case will spin 180 and leave a small dents in the wood just behind the port..Sometimes, the case mouth will hit the bridge and cause the dent you observed.
Along with the ideas presented, the follower will sometimes hit the rear of the box and jam pretty solidly.
Check it out, make sure the box fits the action mortise and the follower has not been replaced....with maybe.. a Springfield.
Any chnace you're using reloads?

swmthanks for all of the suggestions. I'll look it over carefully. I'm thinking the follower as I tend to remember how the "jam" felt.
these were factory loads.
