Mike SmithProject Guns?
Hi guys and gals. I just bought 4 more springfield 03's from the cmp. Two rifles are in great shape and will be kept original. The other 2 are pretty beat. I was going to just sell them as I have done in the past and use the money to buy more hoping for that diamond in the rough. I have been thinkin though(scary I know) that perhaps they would be better used as project guns.
Any suggestions as to what they should be when they grow up?

HunterJimMike,
Any of the cartridges based on the '06 case (and the shorter .308 case too) would work just fine. The smallest caliber I recall seeing on an 03-A3 was a .243 Win.
I have a 6.5-'06, and I like that, as well as a .280 Rem. .35 Whelen too, except mine is on a Mauser action.

<G.Malmborg>Mike,
Like Jeffe suggests, you need to first determine if these actions can be safely used. If so, all the calibers listed by Jeffe and Jim will work. Myself, I would probably avoid using short calibers i.e 308 and 243's in these actions due to reliable feeding concerns from the long magazine. That's just my personal opinion though. The .375 Epstein is another great one based on the 338 case...

Mike SmithAll high serial numbers as I always plan to shoot what I collect. One of each 03 and 03A3 are beaters. I always buy them in pairs like that hoping for that one jewel.
