MontanaRem 700 or Win 70 action.???
Looking to build a rifle and was wondering what action would you consider to be the best.
This gun would be for hunting.

<KBGuns>I like Model 70's. I like the 70 trigger and safety better. It is a nicer looking atcion. And it is not solely becasue it is CRF. If M70s were all push feeds **GASP**, I would still like Winchesters best. If you are looking for a used rifle, the push feed Wins can be great deals as they are not fashionable.
A M700 will serve just as well, but I just don't like them.

I have built countless numbers of both. I like them both, but for different applications. The flat bottomed win has an advantage for the huge calibers and a stout recoil lug. The win also has an advantage with controlled feed and a trigger that is lower maintenance in really nasty conditions. The win bedding job will last significantly longer with large calibers that produce a lot of torque. The extractor is more reliable.
The mod 700 gives you more choices in after market options, Stocks, triggers, trigger guards, scope bases, detatchable box magazines.....
Two things many mod700 guys should demand are a thicker recoil lug and a sako extractor. For small to medium sized calibers the mod700 has a lot to offer. Personally I think the machine work I have seen lately on both models leaves a lot to be desired. If the wallet allows I would buy a Nesika Bay and never regret it.
