Never really thought of Holland as a rifle designer but a "cartridge" designer
But after some research, H&H did do a lot of work with double rifles

onefunzr2John Moses Browning was the most prolific gun designer the world has ever known...he should be in a category of his own.
Can't forget Gaston Glock...another gun designer who was way ahead of his time.

BlacktailerVapodog,
You beat me to it. I was going to nominate Roy Weatherby. After all, without Roy would we have rollover cheek pieces and inlaid stocks? Oh and those heavy epoxy stock finishes

FMC Me. Start off with a Pre 64/War action and then build a gun around it. Done it many times and they're all perfect. Just find a decent stockmaker and metalsmith to build what you like.

There are two types of people in the world: those that get things done and those who make excuses. There are no others.

AbobNice try FMC but you are modifying an original design

CustomstoxChristian Sharps, George Gibbs and John Farquharson for their collaboration on the Gibbs Farquharson falling block, Don Allen for his #10 and Martin Hagn for his single shot. I like a lot of the others who have also been nominated. I am sure Scrollcutter mentioned George Hoenig for his cylinder action double rifle and four barrel rifle and not for his duplicator. It is a sight to behold and something entirely different and built like a watch. I was remiss in not mentioning Bill Ruger for almost everything he did but especially for his Number 1.

buckshotIts gotta be John M. Browning. The Mauser brothers are right up there too, but their 98 was more evolutionary than revolutionary. Some of John's designs evolved too, but no designer I can think of was as prolific with shotguns, rifles, and automatic weapons. Even fewer designed the cartridges their weapons would shoot. John Browning designed weapons are currently serving on the front lines, a claim that can't be made about other designers from a century ago.
