John RicksQuestion for Jack Belk: 1908
I was running an inventory on actions last night, found two in the vault I had forgotten about. I would be interested in your comments.

<JBelk>Rick---
The '08 Brazilians are, for all practical purposes, an '09 Argentine without the nifty mag box.
Both were case hardened ONLY on the INSIDE of the receivers. Testing on the outside shows the hardness of a stale sandwich.
They're usually really good and tight actions without a lot of arsenal damage, but beware the occasional example that didn't get case hardened properly or has set back the lugs. Pull the barrel an really look at the lug recesses. If they have to be re-leveled the action will have to be re-case hardened... Regular heat-treat does VERY little for them. THey have limited carbon and alloys.

John RicksThanks! Both are in good shape, almost no dings, the crests are sharp.
I was suspicious of the exterior, they do not have the case hardened look. Think I will run some Rockwell tests.
Both are barreled, I will pull the barrels and take a look at the lugs.
