Hi fritz
in the last number of jakt& jgaren page 6 (tummen slets p 15-ring)there is an artikel about the tikka stainless which was exploded and wounded a young hunter called jonatan strm . the tikka was stainless and in 3006 caliber and the young fella had a nasty wound in his tummb after the explosion and there is a little discusion in the forum about the late incidents with sako stainless but not about that boy .

The typical stainless steel for barrels is 416.This is a free machining grade containing relatively high amounts of sulphur.Since it is the typical steel, that in itself is not the problem....We'll continue to have guesses about this until SAKO/Beretta give us the information ,if they ever do....It's amazing but the more Sako owners that haven't heard the more chance of blow ups and lawsuits !!A couple of blow-up pictures gets around the internet very fast !

Downwindtracker, that's very possible . China is buying 25% of the worlds supply of steel !!! Your problems with 'garbage steel' is something I've heard from various sources.

There have been people maimed by these rifles. My heart felt sympathy goes out to them. You are not supposed to be hurt shooting a brand new rifle.

There has been a steel shortage world-wide,our company has been scrambling for supplies.Where we have been able to get them,we have been paying a premium of 53%.We are also having production problems with the garbage steel we are using. That's likely why a Berretta bean counter bought suspect steel.
