Indexable threading tools preference ?
Wondering what you guys like best in indexable threading tools for barreling. And is anyone aware of an indexable that has inserts for doing square threads? I've seen 60, 55 and acme but no square.

I use a Kennemetal Top Notch tool for all v-threads. I use hand-ground HSS tools for square threads.

Kaiser Tools - Thinbit will grind you whatever you want.

I'm pretty sure Mark Stratton had a few bits for the square threads at Trinidad several years ago.

Thanks guys. I'll probable call Kaiser and see what custom ground inserts cost. If they're reasonable that could be handy for other stuff too.

I have been using Kennametal for three decades and am happy with them and I cut a few thousand threads a year. However, If I were to do it over again for just barrel work I would use one of the mini systems Enco sells. They groove .051” and offer threading inserts. Made in the USA as well and are on sale now with free shipping and 15% off. I like the smaller tools for the finer work. Try this: http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PMAKA=ST359-5100
Currently if you use promo code: WEBSALE you will get 15% off this tool.
