dgr416Can a mark Ruger 77 stock be made into a Ruger 77 tang stock
I.saw a stock that had been a 77 Ruger mark II that had been made into a mark I Ruger 77 tang safety stick.Would this work for a Ruger 77 tang rifle in 338 win mag rifle .I want a laminated stock rifle for my old Ruger 77 tang stock 338 win mag it's 33 years old .I don't want a regular stock again they sent easy and don't do good in the rain .My old stock is beat up but I.will refinish it also to have as a spare .

dpcdWell, here is one I actually have done. I put my tang safety 257 into a MKII stock. It requires some drama though. You have to mill out for the tang. have to get a new floor plate as the old ones are too short. Mag boxes are different; the tang ones are taller. Guard screws have to be changed.
And lastly, you end up with two huge gaps at the receiver rear on both sides. If you want pics of this, PM me.

And all of this is easier, simpler and cheaper than just buying a laminate Boyds stock for the old style, tang safety 77 for $189.00, how again?
Or did I miss a staff meeting again ?
When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!

MileHighShooterBoyds, easy peasy. Richard's micro-fit has several in their "bargain" list ready to ship for old style/tang guns
If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

dpcdI tried to convey, that it's not easy, nor cheap. I did it because I do not care about those things. Just doing them is what counts.
Yes, get a Boyds.

Don't worry Tom. I'm chasing my life long dream of aggravating the hell out of you and old Lambert. I don't want for much, do I? LOL

dpcdYou are dong a good job. Take a break;
It's Saturday night; weekly bath night in Moose Jaw. Monthly bath night farther west. And it's beer night everywhere.

Moose Jaw doesn't have a bath night in the winter. To cold, the waters all stiff. They all just go down to the curling rink and drink until no one stinks anymore. Besides, I can't have a beer. Still at work. It's only 3:30 here, out west, in civilization ! It's actually 4:30 in Moose Jaw. Saskatchewan couldn't wrap their heads around daylight savings time, what with Micky's hands jumping all over the damned place. So they elected not to use it. I think they did try it for a while, but people didn't have time to sober up before work.

dgr416I.didn't know it was that big of a pain in the butt to change it over .I knew that some one had done it on here .I may refinish my stock and get a Boyds stock .I.have to take out and bed the barrel channel this is a 338 win mag that has the medium.heavy barrel on it .It has done very well for 32 years of hunting .I just want my Rifle looking better it's getting pretty rough looking even though I.have kanes chaps on it .
