Mauser magazine "geometry" box question...
Guys,

Hope the title is not too confusing, but wanted to get some input on this from the Mauser experts.

I am assembling the parts to put together a .270 on a FN commercial action. I have a hinged FN guard which is from the era where they blocked the mag with a spacer for the .308-based rounds. As seen in the pics, the result of this "compromise" is that the inner walls of the mag box are not machined as back toward the rear as they would have been "normally" for a 06 based round. Hopefully the following pics will work wherein the guard in question (still in the white) is compared to one from a Higgins 50:

So, my question is, how much do you think this would impact feed of the 270 rounds, I mean not being "right" and all?

Would you attempt to re-machine the inner walls? Would the climb be worth the view, so to speak? Or, should I leave it as is. All that said, I believe it will gnaw at me know that it is not "as it should be".

Thoughts, opinions, and experiences welcomed!!

I'm, betting it will feed just fine if the box is nominally the correct width and length....of course, assuming proper rail, ramp, bolt face, extractor, follower configuration.

Thanks for the input, Duane!

I was hoping you might chime in on this. I guess I won't sweat it (yet) and see how it goes.

Have one that went from a 308 to 30-06--works fine.
