M70 trigger pin
At the range yesterday my M70 Classic wouldn't cock when I closed the bolt. It turns out that the trigger pin had slipped partially out, and there was enough slop in the system that the sear wouldn't catch. Simply push the pin back in, and all's well...

...until next time. What's the easy way to make sure the pin doesn't slip out again, possibly at a more critical time! I put a drop of high strength LocTite in the (non-spring) side to try and hold it in, but there's gotta be a better solution. I may get it worked over and re-pinned after the season, but I don't want to take the chance that my go-to rifle is at the 'smith's during deer season. They tend to get busy this time of year it seems... Wink

Suggestions?

Thanks!

lay it in a v-block and peen it slightly with a cold chisel or punch on the end that you are driving in from

Fingernail polish or a small drop of light duty loctite over each end will hold it fine until you can do a more permanent fix.

I would not bother with glue. Instead peen it over.

Lay it in the assembled condition in a hard rod that's backed up by say the inside of the jaws of a bench vise and peen it a little at a time with a center punch. Look at what you have done after every tap. You want, in theory, to be able to take it apart someday.

To add that the M70 triggers that I know stay together from the assembly and that includes the pin with the wide head on it. What pin are you having a problem with?

Item #39 in your schematic...'Trigger Pin'

When pressed in it 'snaps' a bit into place. I would have never thought it would work loose and come out, but it did. The small end just comes flush with the end of the receiver hole it fits into, so I don't think peening the end to enlarge it will work. Flattening the sides a bit to make it a press fit in the hole might though...

Before I could give it a good pull and get it out with my fingers. I'll see if the LocTite prevents that and go from there.
