FN Rifle marked ASHTON...made in USA.. Help
I recently picked up a rifle that has as the only marking a name in all caps on the barrel...ASHTON...

It is a 1950's gun, judging by the Stith 6X in Stith mounts. The gun is a 30-06 on a commercial FN action and nicely done. It has no forend cap, a Wby-esque grip cap with diamond and Wby shaped butt, and Very well executed 20 LPI checkering.

The rifle is trim and light with a light sporter contour barrel. It shows no serial number.

The Pad says STITH MOUNTS and in a small circle Custom Made By Pachmayr. The pad might have been added to the gun. ??

Anyone have a clue as to what I have, besides a very wonderful FN 30-06 of that period?

Thanks. This gun is on par with a standard Pachmayr or Paul Jaeger.
