I've been offered a left handed rifle based on a Wichita action and chambered for .222 rem. Does anyone have any experience with these? and is there anything I should look out for in regards to faults?

No. Left handed. I wouldn't even consider it otherwise. Plus the seller basically wants to give it away as apart from there being vertually no market here in the uk for a .222 there is even less of one for left handers. The dealer offering is it me because I am the only left handed shooter he has come across who shoots target rifle!

I'm assuming this is a 1375BR based rifle. The Wichita action is a very good and well made benchrest action. The possible faults are those likely to be found on any used rifle of this type. One possible flaw is gas cutting of the bolt face from leaking primers. The other flaw is galled locking lugs as can occur with any of the 4140 actions if the lugs are not kept clean and lubricated.
The receiver and bolt of these actions are straight and true and massive is construction. Some of the best (most accurate) rifles I ever built were based on Wichita actions. Wicjita was the first company to offer opposite bolts and loading ports so right handed shooters could look into the loading ports just like we left handers do! Regards, Bill.

Excellent action. Cut my benchrest teeth on a rifle based on this action. A couple of things... the bolt lift is a little heavy on the Wichita action due to the lug configuration. Not really a problem once you get used to it, but the rifle does tend to move in the bags more than I like because of this. Also you might have a hard time finding a tool to take the bolt apart, but one can be fabricated. I'd grab it fast before he changes his mind... ol blue
