jstevensStarted a nasty project today
I purchased an old FN rifle that had been built up in .338 Mag, just picked it up today. Someone had put some kind of cloth camo pattern over a synthetic stock that looked like Fido's ass. They also had replaced the pad with a thick one with a slight hook on each end like you'd use on a trap gun. Really looked nice! The metal work looked nice, bore looked new, great trigger, and a model 70 syle safety. It showed the gunsmith as North Fork Custom rifles, someone told me they thought it was in Idaho. Any way , I peeled off the camo crap and underneath is a McMillan synthetic stock, so I'm in the process of using some acetone and an old bronze shotgun brush to scrape the adhesive off the stock. I think I'll put some Talleys on it and if it shoots good, add some NECG sights and barrel band swivel and should make a nice hunting piece.

Jim_DubellFor several years McMillan offered their stocks with a cloth exterior in several different camo patterns. I think they called it 'Quiet Camo' as it made the stocks quieter in the woods when brushed by branches etc. I have it on an 06 I hunt with.

jstevensIt could be an original then, this one looks pretty ratty now, although the bore looks new, and the rifle's finish is probably 95%.

Hey jstevens, If your still scrubbing, stop long enough to go get a can of WD-40 and spray the glue residue with it. Rub it into the residue with your finger tips and wipe the resulting sludge off with a paper towel in about 20sec.

P.S. Those Talley Mounts should be a great place to wrap all the non-calibrated Strain Gauge wires around.

jstevensI'll try it, it may be easier than what I'm using. The stock looks brand new underneath, everything else on the rifle looks perfect.
Try Goo-Gone also. Wifezilla uses it to remove glue residue all the time and it doesn't seem to stain or hurt anything underneath.
