This is a 24" barrel that mikes just over 1.20 OD and is chambered in 30-06. THe overall length is right at 24". I picked this up in an estate a few years ago and just discovered I still had it buried in the corner of my gun room.

It looks like a 30 cal machine gun barrel to me. I am not 100% sure, but it sure looks like one. Just a side note, if it is a machine gun barrel, the chamber and most of the bore is a stellite steel insert. Very hard steel. So, don't try to re chamber it as it will ruin your reamer in a heartbeat. I have a 30 cal machine gun barrel that an old gentleman who was a match shooter gave me. It was made from a machine gun barrel and he fitted it up to a Springfield 03. He was able to profile the outside of the barrel and thread for a Springfield, but he was unable to cut the cone in the breech because of the stellite steel insert. The rifle fed without a hitch and it was an accurate match rifle.

It definately is a machine gun barrel for the WWII era Browning LMG. I have had several and turned them to sporter contours and chambered for .308 WIN. Some of these had Stellite chambers and will wreck a reamer so, be careful with them. By the way, none of the ones I had were Stellite.

If I remember correctly, only those used on planes and tanks had stellite inserts? Not the infantry MGs?

I don't see a chamber, I do see lands.

Hawkins-Yes, there is a chamber as I cast it to verify what caliber it was. I did not show the entire chamber in the photo, though -- sorry about that.

What are the specs to the action threads on these barrels?

Also, based on the photos, it appears to be a bit thicker at the chamber end, what is the OD there?
