M70 classic Safari Express 458 rebarrel to 500 A square
Is it possible to rebarrel a win m70 classic Safari 458 to 500 a square.

I beleive the 458 cartridge is 2.5 inches in length and the 500 is 2.9 or would a 375 H&H gun be better.
Also what other mods would have to be done(magazine box).

Thanks

I believe the 500 A2 has a COAL of 3.80 inches, but that is just from memory. The max you can fit into the M70 without chopping away steel is 3.6 inches (.375 H&H), so modifications would be extensive.

A-Square designed the .495 A-Square cartridge for the M70 action, but it requires major action modifications and a completely rebuilt magazine box.

If you want a .500 A2, converting a CZ550 is the easy way. If you want to use a M70, a 458 Lott is about the biggest that will fit without lots of work.
