I am having a Hart Barrel installed on a Win Mod 70. I have decided on 270WSM, but I am having trouble deciding on a 24 or 26 inch Barrel. I would like to hear some opinions.

If it were me I 'd get the 26". If it didn't handle well and/or wasn't appreciably faster, then I might lop it off some. But a 26" .270 wsm ought to be something nice.

The length of a barrel really changes the personality of a rifle. It's balance is affected most. The weight by maybe only an ounce an inch.

I have a 7MM WSM with a 24" barrel. Even though the stock is light the rifle still does not feel as handy as an old M 70 Featherweight. It's acceptable however.

I have a number of old "cannons" with 26" barrels. You really need a special reason to carry a 26. But like the guy says you can make them shorter but not longer.
