Lapping rings, aluminum
I have lapped my scope rings for years and think that is a good practice (yes I am aware of the rings with plastic inserts) .
These rings have all been steel, mostly leupold but some others.

I bought a set of Talley light weight ring mounts that are aluminum.
And reason these cant be papped?

Thanks

At a minimum I always lapp the bottom rings to past 75% on Tally LW's

The bar usually lapps heavily on the sides as the extruded Tally rings are not even close to round.

After I get about a 75% clean up I add the top rings and knock off the tight spots on the sides.

Aluminum rings, regardless of make, can have the same issues as steel. The only difference is that they are softer and usually lap to good contact faster. No harm in doing it.
