Scotch Brite Wheels
Was talking to a fellow who had seen some recoil pads finished with some sort of Scotch Brite finishing wheels mounted on a grinder. Anyone have any ideas?

I have used the red scotch PADS, as a final finish sand on decelrater pads with good results!

Decelerator pads are what Im talking about. I looked at their website and they have a LOT of Scotch Brite products, including wheels of bench grinder size. Have wondered if some of them wouldnt do the final finish or round the edges without making "fuzz" on the edges. Thanks, Ill look further and call their tech people.

Depends on what you mean buy scotch brite and wheel. As you have found there is a lot of stuff on the 3m site.
I use the red pads and a final finish for a lot of materials and they also come in wheel fashion as well.

I typically use either a scotch bright pad or Polish o ray 400 grit on a stitched wheel

I have done this. Works well but be very careful about overheating; makes a mess (ask me how I know)

Do most of your work with a disk grinder with a table. Pad on a jig. use a 60 to 80 grit disk. then finish with what ever you please. like I said I use Polish O ray 400 grit for the final finish. Scotch bright will soften the grind marks.
As you are grinding up to the line on the pad, your finish dimension. Use less and less pressure and hold the pad in one area for a shorter amount of time. This will prevent overheating.

You will get a ball of fuzz coming off the pad. And that is normal. but you don't want to over heat the pad itself. The pad grinds quite quickly and doesn't take much work to finish up.

In my experience the wheels you are talking about are one of the best investments you can make. I use the red and gray A LOT. sold through Brownells
