300 WSM on Rem 700
Can I put a 300 WSM on my long action Rem 700 or will the extractor give me a problem?

Reason is, since the WSM takes a #43 shell holder, and normal magnum brass takes a # 3, is there enough difference to give me extraction problems?

You have my permission. However it seems to be a big project in that the cartridge will be short for the magazine so that might have to have a spacer.

Why not but a bag of .300 WSM brass and see how they fit? That case fit's in my "magnum" Lee shell holder but not in the RCBS #4.

Then when you find that it will not feed you can go out and buy a brand new M 70 that will for $600.

It's a rule that when you get over 20 of any empty brass you have to get a gun for it.

Savage99,

I was unaware of that rule. I like it.

The new ultra mags use a different case head that works just fine. I'm sure it can be done with the WSM.

Terry,

I am assuming that you are talking about a 700 LA that is for a standard .473 or "06" case head. If that is the case you will need to open the bolt face and then most people put in a Sako extractor.

Usually runs about $125 here to have the boltface opened. I don'tknow enough to know whther you have to block the magazine.

I have scraped the idea. I find that in a Rem Mag bolt, the WSM will touch the case body before seating properly in the extractor, and feeding is another problem.

Rem Ultra Mag cases are built slightly different, and they will work fine.
