HOWA or FN mauser actions?
A friend of mine build mausers, usually from Czech CZ surplus guns bought from a local sporting goods store. He mentioned to me that I could find a Howa stainless big ring receiver for around $300. Does anyone know of a source for these or the FN receivers. He has been using Adams & Bennet barrels because they're cheap but hasn't had an opportunity to test them for accuracy yet. Is anyone familiar with these barrels, or could you suggest a good barrel for under $300? I'd like to build one on .308 with a timney trigger to have as a plinker (an accurate plinker), and figure the whole project will be cheap. Thanks for any Mauser info.---MOA

You can buy a whole Howa for well under $400. Check Shotgun News.

You can buy a Howa 1500 rifle in stainless steel for $350, they are very accurate.

MOA: I have just broke in a .308 with a A&B
barrel 24" fluted SS, Mauser GEW 98 action,Boyds laminated stock, Bold trigger. So far it has broke in good. After about 30 rounds 1 wet patch and 2 dry and it is clean. with UMC factory loads it shoot about 3/4" @ 100 yds.
with reloads 168 gr. match sierra hpbt it does a little better. I am working on the loads for it now and I think it will be a pretty good shooter, for a plinker.

Howa is importing an Italian made Mauser 98 with adjustible trigger and 3 position safety. It is a completly different action than the Howa(Vanguard).

Check out Legacy's Web site. http://www.legacysports.com/about/index.htm

I'd go with the 98 Mauser or an FN...

They have a cast receiver! I will stick with a German made M98, I have about a dozen of them.
