richjDo the black streaks coincide with the "knot" holes in the end grain?
Is it Quartered or Flat or what.

butchlambertJames Anderson and David Christman said it would make a good blank. It looks just like a piece of lumber to me.

homebrewerSaw it down the middle and make two canoe oars with it...

It will probably make an attractive stock, but considering the costs of the stock are more in the work than in the blank, I'd look for a better one myself. To each his own, but I'm not overly fond of that what I call "muddy" look in the mineral streaks. I'd sell it and get another one if it was me.

Jim KobeIt is sooo hard to tell exactly what a blank will end up like. Sometime they will look like a $50 blank when you start and end up looking like a $700 one. Go for it; it has nice flow through the grip but can't really tell about the forend or if both sides match.
Oh yeah, I just remembered, I will look at that other blank of yours today, I think, if I remember, yeah, maybe.

It's really easy to resize a photo. The standard web-based photo size is 640 x 480 pixels. You'll also need to host the photo on a shared server. Your internet service provider (ISP) probably has a small storage space already setup for your account. A few minutes with their customer service should get you started. Here's your blank, resized to 640 x 480 and hosted on my server:

Boss HossFirewood--pitch it. Can't see the front of the blank so the grain flow is not visible so what do you want to know? Pretty marginal best case--looks pretty much like a Blacksmith blank to me as is typical with neophyte Smiths they always just look at the butt lol

. . If you gave more than a C Note you got raped and pillaged on that deal.
Do you even know what kind of wood that is? Get up to speed and learn about what qualities to look for in a blank then post pictures and ask questions.

butchlambertI guess that you are showing again how short your dick is. 24HR campfire has a thread going to get you banned for your mouth. Blackbird, slow rodriquez, and Boss Hogg. For the people that don't know him, go to the American Big Game forum and check out how nice a guy he is. The thread has to do with 300SMK bullets for elk at extreme ranges. He is a very insecure person that has to attack everybody on various forums.
He has more rifles from guild members than the rest of us put together, a Mercedes, a hiked up Dodge PU that has no scratches on it, and a 540CI motor scooter. A long range competition shooter that nobody has heard about.
Sorry to bring myself to his level.

Boss HossSorry Butch do you need a good blank? Just trying to help you out. Man you are sure crabby tonight. Are you mad because I told you the truth? You asked for opinions--oh well some people.

Bobby TomekThe original question with this thread was quite simple:

Any opinions on this stock blank?
Yet boss hoss had to turn it into a chest-beating, primal display of arrogance, much as he has on a number of other forums.

Whatever happened to simple respect and common courtesy?
You know, there IS a reason boss hoss signed up here in 2005 but just recently started posting. It's because he is about to lose his posting privileges on one of his favorite playgrounds, where the other participants banded together and decided they've had enough of the local bully.

Butch the Blacksmith knows why I have issues with him -- goes back a little ways. Now go and learn to string a bow.

butchlambertI will keep you posted on the wood. It will probably next spring late before James Anderson will get to chop on it.

MasteriflemanConsidering the quality of his work Butch, I'd go with what ever James said and wouldn't think a thing of it. If you're really worried, I'll take it off your hands and even send you the postage.
