Sight questions
I have a Mauser .375 with a slick barrel. I have 2 sight installation questions. Is solder strong enough to hold the sights by itself? If not, then is there a formula to determine how deep I can drill into the barrel safely? It's an Mk X with a muzzle diameter of .665. Thanks

Tin solder will hold just fine as long as it's a good clean joint. I have seen claw mounts soldered to barrels and receivers with less than 3/4 square inches per base of contact and still hold those big, heavy, steel, German scopes on.

Here are the working dimensions for 6-48 TPI.

When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!

Thanks sir, I ran across your diagram on another website after I posted. I've placed it in my Need To Know file. This one will go there also.

Sorry, but I don't get that graphic. It appears to say that you can drill within 10 thou of the chamber but 75 thou over the bore farther down the barrel, where pressure should be a bit less. Wouldn't it be the other way around?

I know the drawing looks professional and comes with a gunsmith's accreditation - but on the other hand, there is a spelling mistake in large letters Smiler

I must have been asleep that day. I corrected it. LOL
