Rebarreling a Rem Model Seven?
Anyone have it done? I have one from when they first came out in the mid eighties in 7mm08. I do not want to change the chambering, just a longer barrel. I like the looks of a schnable forend with a longer barrel, say 22 inches. I have read that free floating the barrel may worsen accuracy as the forend tip pressure gives those thin barrels more stability, but like I stated, it is just what I have read.

Any thoughts?

Should be just a normal rebarrel job. Personnaly I would bed the action the frist 3 inchs of barrel in front of the action and free float the rest. I have had better luck doing that then any way else.

It is a straight-forward operation. I have done a number of them.

I swapped the short barrel with an almost new take-off from a M700 Rem I got from Pac-Nor. The barrel was sent on trial and guaranteed. Ended up a superb barrel for $75 plus fitting, which as I recall, cost me $75.
